As discussed in our staff meeting we are getting ready to launch WorldSpace University.
Goal: The overall goal for this initiative is to help everyone to gain new skills and to improve or refine skills that already exist. Doing so it will help your channel become a better channel, thereby improving the overall quality of the overall WorldSpace content and fulfilling our responsibilities as WorldSpace employees. Secondly, it has the added benefit of helping you personally in whatever you choose to do after your WorldSpace experience. Learning or improving these skills will do nothing but make you more valuable to existing and future employers.
How: A number of specific areas were identified as areas that were important enough to concentrate on. Each of these areas will be focused on for 2 weeks - through a series of group meetings and individual sessions. For each of the areas, there will be one or more people who will serve as team leaders who will conduct the sessions.
Next Steps: We will meet with the team leaders to discuss the best and most effective ways to conduct their 2-week session and to create the plan to do so.
Areas of Concentrations:
1. Where is Media Going? - Where the media industry as a whole is headed with all of the advancements in digital media technologies and the rapid change of consumer preferences.
2. Developing Yourself - Identifying the skills necessary to compete in this "new media world"
3. Business Planning - The beginning of the process in the development or refinement of the skills identified in sessions one and two. Focusing on development of strategic plans and tactical plans.
4. Connections - It's not only what you know, but WHO you know. How to develop the right kind of relationships to help you succeed in business.
5. Music and Programming - An in-depth review of all aspects of the music programming aspects of your radio station - inclusive of basic theories and strategies, effectively using your Selector (or Powergold) programs and the execution of programming initiatives.
6. Production - Understanding the power and value of production on your radio station. Learning how to effectively write production so that it speaks to your audience and reinforces your strategic plan.
7. Website and New Media - Where do we begin................
8. Events - Understanding the importance of events and how to create relevant and powerful events for your channel - especially those with no cost!
9. Connection with Audience - How to get your audience engaged and become passionate members of your community - and how to keep them satisfied.
10. Time Management - There's never enough time in the day...and there are a lot of distractions...i know...It took me forever to write this post. How to "get it all done" effectively.
11. Tying it All Together - Revisiting the previous 10 sessions and seeing how everything fits together and how it can help you.
When: We will look at the beginning of May to begin
More: Detailed briefs on each of the individual sessions to come.
